They have a reputation of being easy to drive but in my experience this isn't entirely true. They seem to need quite a bit of current to really wake up and sound good. To make them sound their best I'd recommend a tube/valve amp. These can be found for reasonable prices on Ebay, etc. A good solid state amp should drive them respectably too but again they need to provide lots of current which is something many solid state amps don't do. I'm not familiar enough with the DACs out there to really make a real recommendation, but you couldn't really go wrong with something like a Headroom MicroDAC. Maybe it'd even be worth looking at something like the upcoming HeadAmp Pico? I don’t know if you’ll find your way back here but I have some HD595s myself.
